Ash Wednesday and Lenthttp://www.marymackillop.qld.edu.au/community-news/Pages/Ash-Wednesday-and-Lent.aspxAsh Wednesday and Lent
On Wednesday 14th February we enter into the Church season of Lent as we observe Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent and is the forty-day season of preparation and reflection prior to Easter (Sundays are not included in the count). Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of moderation and spiritual discipline. The purpose is to reflect on the humanity of Jesus and the sacrifice he made for all of us. Tomorrow, the students will receive ashes on their foreheads. The ashes historically signify repentance and remind us that we are of the earth and not perfect, but also that we belong to a global Catholic community united by the story of one man, Jesus. During these next couple of weeks, remember to take the time to reflect upon what it is that you are going to do differently in preparation for Easter. Will you go without something or will you do that extra little job to help someone else?

Year 6 Leadership Dayhttp://www.marymackillop.qld.edu.au/community-news/Pages/Year-6-Leadership-Day.aspxYear 6 Leadership Day
The Year 6 students are taking over the Southern Cross Centre this Friday for a special ‘Leadership Day’ so there will be no regular assembly. The leadership day will be run by personnel from Project Hatch and will include the following themes where the students will:

learn to create small differences in their thinking to make big changes in their behaviour and self-confidence;

experience ways they can be a positive influence in the lives of others;

gain emotional intelligence and mindfulness strategies to increase their wellbeing;

and reflect on how the Gospel messages are alive and relevant in their daily lives.

We trust that it will be a fantastic day of growth for all our Year 6 students!

Volunteer Student Protection Traininghttp://www.marymackillop.qld.edu.au/community-news/Pages/Volunteer-Student-Protection-Training.aspxVolunteer Student Protection Training
Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) and St Mary MacKillop gives student protection the highest priority. In 2018 BCE has mandated that all volunteers with St Mary MacKillop complete an online Student Protection Course which takes approximately thirty minutes to complete. Once the training has been completed you will be asked to print out the registration form, please complete and bring to the school office. This training supersedes any previous volunteer registers or applications. Volunteers with Blue Cards are also required to complete this training. Below is the link to the training. Please call the office if you have any queries.

Click here to access the BCE Student Protection Training for Parents and Volunteers. For our community to continue to have events and support we need you! Every little bit that you do helps, sometimes taking on a P & F role is too much but if you were to do it with a friend or assist someone else the task is so much easier and manageable; as they say more hands make light work.

Over the next few weeks, there will be a date claimer P & F newsletter coming out. This will be something you can stick on the fridge, mark your diaries or pencil in a volunteer day or two. Keep your eye out for this!

If you are interested in enquiring about where we might need some more help please don’t hesitate to ask.
