The school gates open at 8.00am. Children will always receive 'duty of care' while they are at School. However, it should be well understood that supervision of children begins at 8.00am each morning. If care is required before this time it is necessary for parents to enrol children in the Outside School Hours Care Program (OSHC) and pay the required fee. OSHC is operated by Centacare within our school grounds. For more information please contact the St Mary MacKillop OSHC Coordinator on 0477 550 445.
Once children enter the school grounds, the children place their bas on the port racks outside their designated classroom. They then gather in the undercover Sports Court area until they are dismissed at 8.25am. This is a passive meeting and greeting time without play. It is very important that children arrive at school between 8.00am and 8.25am so that classes may commence on time at 8.30am.
The bell rings at 8.30am to announce the commencement of classes for the day. Children move to their classrooms to meet their teacher.
Classes conclude each day at 2.55pm. After school, children waiting to be collected by parents should gather at an agreed place at either the undercover Sports Court or the supervised pick-up zone. Here they will be supervised until 3.20pm. Any children still waiting at this time will be sent to Outside School Hours Care unless we have had a courtesy call to say parents have been delayed. Parents who make alternate, out of sight, pick-up points in front of the Church or in Birdwood or Hardy Roads, do so in the full knowledge that their children are NOT teacher supervised.
Under no circumstances should children be told to wait at the playground as this is an unsupervised area.
